Objective When ships are sailing in polar regions or high-latitude areas, the work of removing ice and snow from the ship's deck is of vital importance. Considering various factors such as the principle of energy generation, heating efficiency, temperature control precision and energy consumption, the application of rapid electromagnetic induction heating technology for deck deicing is highly innovative and advanced. However, there is no mature device applied in this field on a global scale.
Methods This paper explores the principle of electromagnetic induction heating technology (covering its development history, working principle, and technical characteristics and advantages), especially the application of high-power power electronic technology based on the insulated gate bipolar transistor (IGBT) framework therein, and conduct research on the electromagnetic induction rapid heating deck deicing technology for ships and the development of the device.
Results The application experiment shows that the designed device can effectively remove the ice layer within 30 mm, and has the advantages of high efficiency and energy saving, precise control, rapid response and clean and environmentally friendly.
Conclusion It provides strong support for improving the deicing ability of Chinese ships in extremely cold navigation areas, helps to enhance China's polar navigation guarantee ability, promotes the development of ship deck deicing technology, and has broad application prospects in military, industrial and civil fields.
